Stool test for Cryptosporidium detects oocysts of Cryptosporidium parvum and related species using modified acid-fast staining or antigen detection.




Pretest:

Collect stool in a clean, dry, sterile container. Avoid contamination with urine, water, or toilet paper. Notify the lab if the patient is on antibiotics or antiparasitic medication. Multiple stool samples over 2–3 days may increase detection sensitivity. Do not send formed stool if watery/loose stool is clinically indicated for testing.
