A 24-hour urine protein test measures the total amount of protein excreted in urine over 24 hours and helps evaluate kidney function, proteinuria, nephrotic syndrome, and related renal disorders.
Pretest:
Collect all urine for 24 hours, starting after discarding the first morning urine and including the next day’s first morning sample. Keep the container refrigerated during the entire collection period. Avoid incomplete collection, as it may produce inaccurate results. Note any medications that may affect kidney function. Provide total 24-hour urine volume to the lab.
