Free PSA measures the unbound portion of prostate-specific antigen in the blood and helps assess the risk of prostate cancer, especially in men with borderline or moderately elevated total PSA levels.
Pretest:
Avoid ejaculation for 24–48 hours prior to sample collection. Not recommended immediately after prostate biopsy, DRE, cystoscopy, TURP, or prostate manipulation—wait at least 6 weeks. Medications like finasteride or dutasteride may affect PSA levels—mention if the patient is taking them.
