Packed Cell Volume (PCV), also known as Hematocrit (HCT), measures the percentage of red blood cells (RBCs) in the blood. It helps in evaluating anemia, dehydration, and polycythemia by assessing the blood’s capacity to carry oxygen.
Pretest:
No fasting is required. Inform your doctor or lab if you have had a recent blood transfusion, as it can alter results. Maintain good hydration — dehydration may lead to falsely elevated PCV values. Avoid smoking or heavy physical exertion just before sample collection.
