The 24-hour urine creatinine test measures the amount of creatinine excreted in urine over a full day to evaluate kidney function, estimate glomerular filtration rate (GFR), and monitor renal health.
Pretest:
Collect all urine passed over 24 hours, starting after discarding the first morning urine and including the next day’s first morning urine. Store the collection container in the refrigerator (2–8°C) during collection. Avoid vigorous exercise, alcohol, or high-protein meals during the collection period. Record total urine volume and note the start and end times of collection. Inform your doctor of any medications (e.g., diuretics, cimetidine) that may affect results
