The Clostridium difficile Toxin A/B qualitative test detects the presence of toxins A and B produced by C. difficile bacteria in stool samples. It is used to diagnose Clostridium difficile infection (CDI), a common cause of antibiotic-associated diarrhea and pseudomembranous colitis.
Pretest:
Collect fresh stool sample in a sterile, leak-proof container. Avoid urine or water contamination. Do not collect stool from rectal swabs. Inform your clinician about recent antibiotic use or hospitalization.
