The Bile Salts – Urine test detects the presence of bile salts in the urine, which normally should be absent. It is primarily used to screen for liver and biliary tract diseases, such as obstructive jaundice, hepatitis, and cirrhosis, where bile components leak into the bloodstream and are excreted in urine.
Pretest:
Collect a fresh midstream urine sample in a sterile container. Prefer morning sample for better accuracy. Avoid contamination with water or stool. Protect from direct sunlight as bile components are light-sensitive. No fasting required.
