The Bile Pigments – Urine test detects the presence of bilirubin and urobilinogen in urine. It helps in the diagnosis of liver and biliary tract disorders, such as hepatitis, cirrhosis, and obstructive jaundice, by identifying abnormal bile pigment excretion.
Pretest:
Collect a fresh midstream urine sample in a sterile container. Morning samples are preferred for higher concentration accuracy. Avoid contamination with water or stool. No fasting required. Protect the sample from direct sunlight, as bilirubin is light-sensitive and may degrade.
