The Beta-hCG test measures the level of human chorionic gonadotropin hormone in the blood, produced during pregnancy and by certain tumors. It is used to confirm pregnancy, monitor early pregnancy health, and detect hCG-secreting tumors such as trophoblastic disease or testicular cancer.
Pretest:
No special preparation required. Inform your clinician if you are pregnant, suspect pregnancy, or are being evaluated for trophoblastic disease or testicular tumors. Avoid hemolyzed or lipemic samples. For pregnancy monitoring, serial Beta-hCG tests may be advised every 48–72 hours.
