The Barbiturates, Urine test detects the presence of barbiturate drugs or their metabolites in urine. It is used for drug screening, toxicology testing, and monitoring compliance or misuse of sedative medications such as phenobarbital or secobarbital.
Pretest:
No special preparation required. Provide a fresh, midstream urine sample in a sterile container. Avoid dilution of urine (excess fluid intake) before sample collection. Inform your clinician if you are on prescription sedatives, anti-seizure, or sleep medications, as these may contain barbiturates. Positive screening results may be confirmed by GC–MS for specificity.
