The Anti-Thyroid Peroxidase Antibody (Anti-TPO / aTPO) test detects antibodies against thyroid peroxidase, an enzyme essential for thyroid hormone production. It is primarily used to diagnose autoimmune thyroid diseases such as Hashimoto’s thyroiditis and Graves’ disease.
Pretest:
No fasting required. Inform your clinician if you are taking thyroid hormone replacement or autoimmune medication. Avoid hemolyzed or lipemic samples. Often performed along with Anti-Thyroglobulin Antibody (Anti-Tg Ab) and Thyroid Function Tests (T3, T4, TSH) for complete thyroid evaluation.
