The Anti-Thyroglobulin Antibody (Anti-Tg Ab) test detects antibodies directed against thyroglobulin, a key thyroid protein. It helps in the diagnosis of autoimmune thyroid diseases such as Hashimoto’s thyroiditis and Graves’ disease, and is also used to monitor thyroid cancer patients after treatment.
Pretest:
No fasting required. Inform your clinician if you are taking thyroid medications or have undergone thyroid surgery or radioiodine therapy. Avoid hemolyzed or lipemic samples. Often ordered together with Anti-Thyroid Peroxidase (Anti-TPO) Antibody for comprehensive thyroid autoimmunity screening. Discontinue heparin therapy at least 24 hours before sample collection (as it may lower AT III levels). Avoid hemolyzed or lipemic samples. Should not be performed during an active clotting episode or immediately after anticoagulant therapy initiation.
