The Anti-Streptolysin O (ASO) Titre test measures antibodies produced against Streptolysin O, a toxin released by Group A Streptococcus bacteria. It helps diagnose recent streptococcal infections and their complications, such as rheumatic fever and post-streptococcal glomerulonephritis.
Pretest:
No fasting required. Avoid hemolyzed or lipemic samples. In suspected infections, repeat testing after 10–14 days may help observe a rise in antibody levels. Interpretation should be correlated with clinical findings and C-Reactive Protein (CRP) levels.
