Activated Partial Thromboplastin Time (APTT) test measures the time it takes for blood to clot, evaluating the intrinsic and common coagulation pathways. It is used to monitor heparin therapy, detect coagulation disorders, and assess bleeding tendencies.




Pretest:

Inform the lab if you are taking heparin, warfarin, or other anticoagulants, as these affect results. Avoid aspirin, NSAIDs, or herbal supplements (e.g., ginkgo, garlic) before testing unless directed by your physician. No fasting is required unless APTT is ordered with other tests. Notify the lab of any bleeding disorders or recent surgeries.
